Puli Review

Cast: Hansika Motwani, Kiccha Sudeep, Nandita, Prabhu, Shruti Haasan, Sridevi, Vijay
Direction: Chimbu Deven
Music: Devi Sri Prasad

The much-awaited “Puli” starring Ilayathalapathy Vijay was released on Thursday, 1 October. The mega-budget film, which was expected to be the next “Baahubali”, has got mixed reviews from the audience.

As Maru Dheeran, Vijay plays a valiant hero — whose village and folks are at the cruel mercy of a wicked general of what seems like a mythical kingdom and in mythical times. It is ruled by Sridevi’s Queen, and her princess-daughter (Hansika Motwani) flips for our hero, when he dares into the kingdom after being pushed by his people, hurt and killed and humiliated by the general. Maru Dheeran hopes to meet the Queen to find out whether better sense will prevail.

At some point, Pavala Malli (Shruti Haasan) sweetheart of Marudheeran is abducted and Marudheeran’s foster father Vembunathan (Prabhu) is killed by Vedalam clan. How Marudheeran saves his sweetheart Pavalamalli (Shruti Haasan) is narrated in the second half.

The movie showcases the story in the backdrop of an evil kingdom. The kingdom has Sridevi in the role of a queen, and she is ruling the area with cruelty, and treats everyone as her slaves. Sudeep is playing an evil game in this story, and he is using Sridevi for his personal gains.

The film created huge pre release hype as many reports claimed that this is one such Indian movie which has used the possibilities of Computer Graphics to the fullest. But when the movie hit the screens, it was pretty much clear that all those hypes were unwanted and non deserving.

Vijay as Marudheeran did a neat show, and it is enough and more to impress his fans. His looks were dashing. Shruti Haasan and Hansika Motwani looked ravishing, and Sridevi portrayed that scintillating look which is enough and more to capture the hearts of the audiences.

Music composed by Devi Sri Prasad is good, and the BGM too serve the purpose. If you are an ardent fan of Vijay, then go and watch it to witness your hero fighting against evil in a different avatar.
